SHORT-TERM RATES SET TO REMAIN STABLE ON BNM OPERATIONS

KUALA LUMPUR:  Short-term rates are expected to remain stable today, supported by Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) operations to absorb surplus liquidity in the financial system.

Liquidity in the banking system is estimated at RM31.94 billion in the conventional market and RM18.44 billion in Islamic funds.

Today, BNM will conduct two reverse repo tenders, comprising RM500 million for seven days and RM1 billion for 29 days.

It also offers a RM500 million Islamic reverse repo tenders (sell and buy back) for seven days.

The central bank has announced the availability of reverse repos, sell-and-buyback agreements, and collateralised commodity murabahah facilities with tenors of one week, one month and three months.

At 4 pm, BNM will conduct up to RM33.4 billion in conventional overnight tenders and RM18.9 billion in murabahah overnight tenders. – BERNAMA
