KUCHING: The construction of a shortcut road from the Malihah junction to Jalan FAC has been proposed as a measure to ease the frequent traffic congestion along Jalan Matang here.
Tupong assemblyman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said the proposal has been submitted to the Sarawak government as part of a long-term solution to improve traffic flow in the area.
“I would like to share a plan for the Sarawak government’s consideration, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the Matang area.
“In addition to the proposed shortcut from the Malihah junction to Jalan FAC, I have also suggested the construction of a new road from Malihah directly to Jalan Kampung Paroh.
“This would serve as another alternative route to Jalan Sungai Maong,” he told reporters during the Infrastructure Development Working Visit to the Matang Baru Phase Two road project on Friday.
He added that if approved, the proposal would provide road users with more route options, thereby reducing reliance on Jalan Matang as the main thoroughfare.
“However, the implementation of this project may require the construction of a bridge leading to Jalan Malihah, which is expected to increase the overall project cost.
“I hope the Sarawak government will consider this proposal in the interest of the people, especially residents in the Matang area who commute daily to the city centre,” he said.
