KUCHING: Mia Ghazali wasted little time making her presence felt in Bangkok on Tuesday night.
The 15-year-old Malaysian muaythai prospect stopped Thailand’s Phetchoetchai Sitsoenan in the opening round at Siam Real Combat (SRC), emerging from a frantic exchange-heavy contest with a first-round knockout at the World Siam Stadium.
There was no measured opening and little interest from either fighter in easing into the bout.
From the first bell, the Sarawak-based fighter and Phetchoetchai traded with intent, matching aggression with aggression as the pace was driven by who could land the cleaner, heavier attacks.
Neither was afforded much time to reset.
Every exchange seemed to invite another, with both fighters pressing forward and forcing the contest into a high-tempo battle where damage mattered more than patience.
Early on, there was little to separate them.
Phetchoetchai continued to engage, but Mia grew sharper as the round developed, answering the Thai fighter’s attacks with increasingly telling combinations of her own.
The momentum gradually shifted.
Mia began landing with greater authority, forcing Phetchoetchai onto the receiving end of the heavier exchanges before finding the breakthrough that brought the contest to an abrupt end.
The stoppage came before the opening round was complete, sealing another international victory for the Malaysian teenager.
It was a brief appearance, but one fought entirely at full speed.
Mia did not need a round to settle, study her opponent or wait for the fight to come to her.
