SIBU: Sibu’s Countdown to 2025 with the theme Sibu Carnival: Celebrating 2025 Together will be held at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre, Sibu Jaya from Dec 27 until Dec 31.

Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that 10,000 visitors are expected to participate in the programme which aims to usher in the new year.

“This year’s celebration will be an unforgettable experience, blending cuisine, culture, and entertainment to showcase Sarawak’s rich multicultural heritage,” he said in a statement today (Dec 2).

The venue for Sibu’s Countdown to 2025 Kicks Off with the theme Sibu Carnival: Celebrating 2025 Together.

He added that they are planning to feature around 100 stalls (subject to space availability), offering a wide array of delicacies representing the Malay, Iban, and Chinese communities.

“The allocation will be 30 per cent for Malay vendors, 30 per cent for Iban vendors, 30 per cent for Chinese vendors, and the remaining 10 per cent for other communities. This reflects our commitment to inclusivity and cultural harmony,” he stressed.

He added that on Dec 31, the night will come alive with performances by renowned Malaysian artistes and a spectacular fireworks display, creating a magical experience for everyone.

“I believe this event will offer a deeper appreciation of Sarawak’s unique identity with cuisine and food as bridges to connect people of all backgrounds, embodying the spirit of unity that defines Sibu.

“The Sibu Carnival will showcase the best local cuisine can offer, from savoury comfort food to the latest creations,” he said.

He stressed that local cuisine, in his view, is not just a reflection of culture but also a vital driver of the economy and an essential support for small businesses.

“This is more than a New Year’s celebration; it is a platform to support our local food vendors and promote our cultural heritage. I invite everyone to join us and witness this extraordinary moment together,” he added.

During the event, we will also showcase promotional videos for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) and Asean 2025 activities, emphasising Sarawak’s key role in regional collaboration and international promotion.
