SIBU: The Sibu Coffeeshop & Restaurant Owner Association (SCROA) celebrated its 80th anniversary here on Saturday (March 28).
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang who was the guest of honour, was represented by Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) Youth chbief Kevin Lau at its anniversary dinner.
In his speech read by Lau, Tiang said turning 80 is truly remarkable as it represents not only a long history, but also the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of generations of people in the industry.
According to him, SCROA has always played a vital role in promoting the development of the local food and beverage industry, uniting businesses, and boosting the local economy.
“Everyone is busy doing business every day, but your efforts bring vitality and warmth to the entire city.
“The food and beverage industry is an industry closely connected to people’s lives.
“A cup of coffee, a meal — seemingly simple, yet they carry the weight of human interaction, emotions, and the minutiae of life. It is thanks to everyone’s dedicated efforts that Sibu boasts such a rich, diverse, and distinctive food culture,” he stated.
The 80th anniversary, he added, is not just a reflection on the past, but also a new beginning.
He believed that under the leadership of the association and with the efforts of all business owners, Sibu’s food and beverage industry will continue to thrive and contribute even more to its development.
In this regard, he expressed his gratitude to all past chairpersons, directors, and members for their contributions.
It is because of their perseverance,he pointed out that the association has reached where it is today and continues to move steadily forward.
Among those in attendance were Bawang Assan assemblyman, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh and SCROA Chairman, Tong Ing Kok.
