SIBU: A married couple, who were arrested for masterminding a drug trafficking syndicate here recently, were ordered to be further remanded for four and seven days respectively by the Magistrates’ Court today (June 20).
Magistrate Oon Kork Chern allowed the 52-year-old male suspect to be remanded for seven days and the 44-year-old female suspect to be remanded for four days following the expiry of the seven-day remand of both suspects that began on June 13.

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Aminur Rizwan Saiful Bahari, requested the court to further remand both suspects for seven days to facililate completion of the investigation.
The court also ordered the female suspect, represented by lawyer Darren Ling, to be produced again in court on June 24, while the male suspect, who was not represented, was to be brought back to court on June 27.
Based on previous reports, on June 12 and 13, a team of police officers and members from the Sibu District Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) conducted raids near a shop in Pusat Pedada and at two terrace houses in Lorong Permai Jaya.
The police also arrested a married couple, which led to the discovery of drugs worth RM532,934.40, consisting of 7,086.7 grams of syabu, 2,078.9 grams of ketamine and 2,022.6 grams of Erimin 5 pills.
Also seized in the raid were cash totalling RM5,157,450, four gold bars, two gold chain chains, two Rolex watches and three vehicles.
The total value of the drugs seized and property confiscated amounted to RM8,530,384.40.
Investigations found that the two suspects are the main masterminds of a drug trafficking syndicate in Sibu that has been operating since 2015.
