SIBU: The 2025 Sibu Inter-Secondary School Honor of Kings e-Sports Tournament, hosted by Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI), recently attracted around 200 enthusiastic participants.

The two-day event, held from May 17, was organised in collaboration with the Sibu E-Sports Association (SDESA) and the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp).

According to a press statement from MPI, the tournament aimed to educate young people on playing electronic games with a healthy mindset, steering them away from addiction.

It also sought to raise awareness about career and business opportunities in the esports industry while promoting teamwork, digital skills, strategic thinking, and healthy competition.

“It is worth mentioning that during this tournament, representatives and supporters of each school wore their school shirts neatly and decently, respected their opponents, and observed social etiquette,” the statement added.

“This sets a positive example for e-sports competitions, reflects the right attitude, and upholds the spirit of ‘friendship comes first’ over the tournament.”

In the competition, the South Methodist team (SMK Methodist) emerged as champions.

Team A of Wong Nai Siong Secondary School took second place, followed by the ‘No Business’”’ team (Catholic High School) in third, and the Sibu All-Star team (Citizen Middle School) in fourth.

Yew Zhu Yin from SMK Methodist was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
