SIBU: Thirteen participating teams vying for the on-going Sibu International Invitational Volleyball championship were feted to a sumptuous welcoming dinner reception at Good Happiness Restaurant here on Friday (Aug 1).

The six-day prestigious event held at Sibu Indoor Volleyball stadium in Rejang Park, hosted by Sarawak Volleyball Association (SAVA) in collaboration with Sibu Volleyball Association (SVA) will conclude this afternoon (Sunday, Aug 3) with a closing ceremony cum presentation of prizes.

Divided into men and women categories, the champion of each category will take home a cash prize of USD2,000 (appx.RM9,300), with USD1,000 (RM4,650) for the first runner-up and USD500 (RM2,325) for the second runner-up.

For the men’s category, six teams, namely from Thailand, Hong Kong, Johor, Miri, Sarawak Senior and Sarawak Junior are participating, whereas for the women’s category it involves seven teams, including Mongolia, Taipei, two teams from Thailand, as well as Sarawak Senior, Sarawak Junior and Johor.

SAVA chairman Datuk Moh Wung Ming, who is also SVA chairman expressed his gratitude for the support rendered by all including the technical team, referees, officials and especially the organising committee headed by SAVA secretary Stephanie Law.

Among those present at the dinner reception were SAVA president, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Moh Ung Sing and SAVA deputy president, Lim Jeng Jieh.
