SIBU: About 10,000 people from all walks of life gathered as early as 8am to join in the festive spirit of the Sibu Jaya Hari Raya Open House 2025 at Masjid Al Madinatul Husna here today (Apr 13).

Amcorp Group chief operating officer Mohd Rahimi Mohd Yusof said the celebration is one of many community-driven events hosted by Amcorp in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Masjid Al Madinatul Husna, and the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).

He assured that such programmes will continue regularly through joint efforts with various stakeholders.

“Through continued engagement with local communities, the Group aims to co-create opportunities, co-solve challenges, and co-celebrate successes,” he said when met by reporters at the event.

Rahimi also stressed on the significance of community events like open houses, noting that relationships are worth investing time, effort, and resources in.

“These events provide a platform for everyone – from corporate leaders to residents, from local government officers to schoolchildren – to come together in a relaxed, festive environment. There are no barriers here. No offices. No titles. Just human connections.

“It was also about seeing the smiles on the faces of children. Hearing the laughter of elders reconnecting with old friends. Watching strangers become neighbors, and neighbors become friends,” he added.

On the role of Amcorp and its key partner Housing Development Corporation of Sarawak, he said the partnership has been nothing short of transformative.

“Together, we have watched Sibu Jaya blossom – from an ambitious plan on a blueprint conceptualised by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to a thriving, self-contained township that is now a shining example of urban planning in Sarawak and indeed, in Malaysia,” he stressed.

To complement the Premier’s vision, the approach adopted by Amcorp and HDC towards the development of Sibu Jaya Township was more than just bricks and mortar.

“It is about people. It is about creating spaces where communities can flourish, where families can grow, and where individuals can thrive.”

Pointing out that Amcorp’s work with HDC has always been centered around that philosophy – building homes, and also building hope.

“Not just constructing roads, but also constructing relationships. And not just setting up infrastructure, but also setting up inclusivity.

“The festivity for this celebration of community, unity, compassion, and togetherness also included children from Kompleks Kebajikan Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang or Peryatim Sibu and those from the Methodist Children’s Home,” he added.
