SIBU: Single Dayak ladies, aged 18 to 30, are invited to participate in the Sibu Gawai Dayak 2026’s Kumang Competition which is scheduled to take place on May 23.
Organising committee chairperson, Senorita Salleh, said participants must be at least five feet two inches tall to qualify for the competition which will be held at the 6th Floor, Kingwood Hotel, here.
“A total of RM14,600 in cash prizes is on offer for this competition.
“This competition is the highlight event of the Sibu Gawai Dayak Mantar Night 2026 which will be held on May 23,” she said when contacted on Friday.
The Sibu Gawai Dayak Mantar Night 2026 is jointly organised by the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu, Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sibu, Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA) Sibu, and the Sibu Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA), led by its organising committee chairperson, Angelyn Uchi Maseng.
Meanwhile, Senorita said that Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu 2026 will take home RM4,000 along with a crown, sash, trophy, hamper and certificate of participation, while ‘Lulong’ (runner-up) will receive RM3,000 along with a sash, trophy, hamper and certificate of participation.
“‘Selinggar Matahari’ (third place) will win RM2,000 along with a sash, trophy, hamper and certificate of participation.
“The winners in fourth to 10th placing will each take home RM800 and a certificate of participation as consolation prizes,” she added.
She said that participants must use the Iban ngepan (open) with a participation fee of RM50 charged for each participant and will not be refunded if any participant who has confirmed participation withdraws.
“Participants will be required to compete in the preliminary round scheduled for May 16 to select the best 10 participants to advance to the finals at the Gawai Dayak Sibu Mantar Night 2026.
“The completed entry form along with a copy of the Mykad and a passport-sized photograph with the participant’s signature must be submitted to the organising committee before or on May 9 at 1:00 pm,” she explained.
In this regard, Senorita informed that so far, they have received 10 entries.
“There is no limit to the number of participants. The more people there are, the merrier it will be, but only 10 participants will qualify for the final stage,” she added.
