SIBU: Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew has provided aid to 10 families affected by the recent landslide at Jalan Rantau Panjang, helping to ease their financial burden after being temporarily displaced from their homes.

During his visit to the landslide site on Tuesday (Feb 18), Ling inspected the road collapse situation and met with affected homeowners, expressing concern over their safety and well-being.

He urged the disaster relief committee to expedite the assessment and release of funds for the rectification work.

“The residents are worried the landslide situation could worsen due to heavy rain if repairs are not started promptly, which could further compromise the structural integrity of their houses,” he stated.

Ling also stressed the urgent need for alternative housing solutions, as the temporary relief centre currently accommodating affected families may not remain open indefinitely.

The landslide and road collapse at Lane 7, Jalan Rantau Panjang occurred on the night of Feb 4, sparking fear and anxiety among the 10 affected households living in terraced houses nearby.

Concerned homeowners have urged authorities to resolve the issue swiftly, citing serious risks to their property and personal safety.
