SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is set to host the New Year Countdown 2026, themed “Hearts United”, at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase One here on Dec 31 commencing 8pm.
It promises an unforgettable night as the community unites to usher in the new year, culminating in a spectacular pyromusical fireworks display synchronised to music that will light up the night sky.
Organising chairperson Cr Michelle Law Wan Ling said the event will be graced by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
“It will feature a spectacular pyromusical fireworks display, high-energy dance and singing performances, and electrifying DJ and live band showcases.
“The free-admission event will bring together artists such as Daniel Lee, Ribbon Ooi and Phoebe Chloe, DJ Sapphire, live band groups – Candy & Select Band, alongside fantastic dance crews such as Elemenz, 8Dios, and Little Apple Dance Studio.
“Hosted by Emcee Yann and Emcee Fredz, who will guide and lead the crowd into the highly anticipated countdown to midnight,” she said at a press conference on Monday (Dec 15).
There will also be vibrant performances showcasing children, youth talents, and artists, bringing modern energy and creativity to the stage.
According to her, a total of 1,000 heart-shaped glow sticks will be distributed randomly to the crowd, symbolising warmth, love, and unity with glowing hearts will create a stunning “sea of hearts,” visually representing community connection.
“United by the theme ‘Hearts United’, the SMC New Year Countdown 2026 invites everyone to come together in a safe, welcoming, and vibrant celebration as we usher in the New Year as one community.
“This joyful event celebrates the spirit of connection, highlighting the love, care, and mutual support that unite our people and neighbourhoods.
“Guided by SMC’s motto, ‘Serving People, Enhancing Life’, the countdown aims to promote inclusiveness, strengthen harmony, and inspire a deep sense of belonging among the people of Sibu, making it a night of shared joy, unity, and new beginnings.”
