KUCHING: Sibu emerged as the overall champion at the Sarawak Inter-Training Centre Weightlifting Championship 2025, held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Sarawak Sports Village, here from June 9 to 13.
Sibu dominated the medal tally with an impressive haul of six gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, securing the top overall ranking among the competing centres.
Kanowit followed in second place, collecting four gold, seven silver, and four bronze medals, while Subis clinched third overall with four gold, three silver, and two bronze.
Miri finished fourth with four gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, just ahead of Sarikei, which recorded two gold, one silver.
Host centre Kuching placed sixth, earning two silver and three bronze, while Limbang completed the standings with one silver, and one bronze.

In a statement distributed by the association at the event, the Sarawak State Weightlifting Association (PABNS) reaffirmed its commitment to the development of weightlifting, particularly among students, through the organisation of inter-training centre competitions.
“These events not only provide valuable sporting experience but also serve as a foundation for the holistic growth of individuals, both mentally and physically.
“Through such initiatives, PABNS aims to identify new talent, promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and encourage positive values through sports,” the statement read.
In addition, the competition serves as a platform to scout for promising athletes who can represent Sarawak at higher levels.
“It also helps foster healthy competition, raise awareness of the sport within local communities, and provide opportunities to train both new and experienced technical officials,” the statement added.
Also present at the closing event held today was Katibas Assemblyman, Lidam Assan.
