SIBU: Small-and medium-sized supermarkets and grocery stores in Sibu have been urged to register as partners of the Kedai MyKasih programme to broaden their market reach and boost their income.

Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling Chai Yew said that by joining the programme, traders will offer low-income households eligible for the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) greater access to selected essential goods using their MyKad.

“Traders who sell at least 70 per cent of the 14 categories of goods are eligible to apply to become Kedai MyKasih partners,” he said in a statement here today.

The categories include white rice, beverages, bread, eggs, seasonings, toiletries, medicines, instant noodles, biscuits, flour, stationery, canned food, cooking oil, and household cleaning products.

Ling said his parliamentary service centre recently set up a mobile service counter in the town centre to assist local traders in registering as Kedai MyKasih partners.

Although the number of traders registered has yet to meet the target, Ling described the initiative as a crucial first step in raising public awareness about the programme’s benefits.

Interested traders can register at the Sibu DAP headquarters, where representatives will help submit applications to the Ministry of Finance.

He added that registered traders will receive a government-supplied point-of-sale (POS) system and barcode scanner. – BERNAMA
