KUCHING: The Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal has officially announced that the sighting of the new moon to determine the beginning of Ramadan will take place on the evening of Friday, February 28 2025, corresponding to 29 Syaaban 1446 Hijrah.
In accordance with the decree of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and with the consent of the Conference of Rulers, committees assigned to the task will conduct moon sighting observations at designated locations across the country.
Among the key sites identified for this significant event are Baitul Hilal in Pontian, Johor; Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi in Melaka; and Pusat Falak Sheikh Tahir in Penang. Other sites include observatories in Kedah, Terengganu, Sarawak, and Sabah, as well as prominent landmarks such as Menara Kuala Lumpur and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
The Conference of Rulers has agreed that the determination of the beginning of Ramadan will be based on the combined method of rukyah (moon sighting) and hisab (astronomical calculations).
On the same night, following the conclusion of the observations, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will make an official announcement via radio and television, confirming the date for the commencement of fasting for Malaysian Muslims.
