SIBU: Teachers, especially Guidance and Counselling Teachers (GBK), are urged to register with the Career Message System (SPEAK) to ensure the dissemination of information on education, training and career opportunities to students can be done more effectively.

Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Permanent Secretary, Adana Jed said so far only 12 GBK out of 47 schools in Sarikei, Sibu and Kapit Divisions have registered in the system, which is equivalent to 24 per cent.

“Therefore, this programme is being held to increase participation so that the dissemination of information is more effective and efficient in the future,” he said at the SPEAK 2025 Phase Two Sibu Zone Roadshow held here Tuesday (Oct 7).

According to Adana, the digital era and artificial intelligence (AI) have rapidly changed the career landscape, hence the state government is focusing on human capital development through the Sarawak Post-COVID-19 Development Plan (PCDS) 2030 to achieve the target of 30 per cent skilled workforce and make Sarawak a high-income developed state.

He said the implementation of SPEAK is a manifestation of the government’s commitment to nurturing local talent to keep pace with the needs of the current job market.

SPEAK, he explained, is a comprehensive online platform that provides career-related information, further education opportunities and technical and vocational skills training (TVET) offered by various local institutions.

“This platform is specially designed for Sarawakian children, especially school leavers and job seekers, so that no one is left behind in their efforts to build their future careers,” he said.

He added that high-impact sectors such as the green economy and renewable energy including hydrogen and solar, as well as digital technology and AI, are now the main focus to develop Sarawak as a skills and innovation hub in the region.

“Therefore, I urge all guidance and counselling teachers to make full use of the SPEAK platform. It is not just a registration, but a gateway to strategic information to build a meaningful and globally competitive career,” Adana added.
