KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice-president Datuk John Sikie Tayai conveyed his gratitude to outgoing party president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum for proposing him to take over the leadership of the party.
Sikie described Salang’s gesture as a noble deed that reflected his confidence and trust in him.
“It is indeed a noble deed when Salang passed the baton to me to lead the party. Once again, I wish to thank him very much for his trust and of course, his support,” he told Sarawak Tribune today.
Yesterday, Salang confirmed that he would not defend his presidency in the upcoming party polls.
PRS is scheduled to hold its Sixth Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) from October 18 to 19, with Salang previously announcing that all party positions will be open for contest.
It was also recently reported that PRS Supreme Council member, Wilson Nyabong Ijang, has officially announced his interest in the party presidency.
