KUCHING: The Industry Lead Body (ILB) Bomba Southern Zone Seminar 2025 is an excellent platform to strengthen knowledge in fire safety and rescue, especially among those responsible for ensuring buildings the public occupy are safe.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian said as an ILB, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) shoulders a significant responsibility to ensure the sustainable and competitive development of human capital in the field of firefighting.

“Our role extends beyond training and skills development — it includes shaping policies, standards, and best practices that align with current industry needs and future challenges,” he said.

“The objective of this seminar is to raise awareness and build the capacity of premise owners, residents, industry professionals, and the wider community in the field of fire safety and rescue.

“This, in turn, strengthens the role of the Bomba as an ILB in producing skilled labour in fire safety.”

He said this in his speech, read by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng during the opening of the seminar at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Monday (Aug 4).

Dr. Sim added that the seminar provides an avenue to discuss challenges, regulations, and fire safety standards relevant to technological advancements and current industry demands.

“It also fosters collaboration between agencies, academia, and the private sector to enhance fire safety levels in Malaysia.

“It is the hope of the government and Bomba that this seminar will provide in-depth understanding of the existing laws and procedures and serve as a platform to create networks and cooperation between government departments, professionals, private organisations, and industry players.

“Overall, the implementation of the ILB Seminar in the field of fire and rescue in Sarawak plays a vital role in ensuring that communities are safeguarded from fire hazards,” he added.
