SIBU: The work to upgrade the drainage system and footpaths at the Sing Ang Tong Methodist Church, Sungai Merah here will be implemented this year with an allocation of RM300,000 under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the project will be implemented by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
“This project has been discussed since last year with the church management committee after we found that the entrance area was often flooded during heavy rains.
“The church is located in a hilly area and does not have a complete perimeter drain. Therefore, my RTP allocation will be used to build a 100m perimeter drain along with a pedestrian walkway for the convenience of worshippers,” he said during a site visit on Monday (Sept 29).
According to the Pelawan assemblyman, the pedestrian walkway will also be connected to the public parking area, providing more comfort and ensuring the safety of worshippers attending services.
The project, he added, is expected to be fully completed in the first quarter of next year.
Also present during the visit were SMC assistant engineer Harry Blazes and Penghulu Ting Tien Huat.
