KUCHING: The Sirung project is on track to achieve its first oil production in 2028.

The confidence comes with the signing of an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract between PTTEP Sarawak Oil Limited (PTTEP) and Brooke Holding Sdn Bhd (BHSB) today.

PTTEP Malaysia Asset Country Manager Vitoon Chaisomboonpan said the contract signing marked the beginning of the project’s execution phase.

The appointment of Brooke Holding for the critical role, he said, reflects the company’s confidence in local capabilities and its strategic commitment to the Sarawak Basin.

“Since the Sirung-1 discovery in 2021, this project has progressed through strong collaboration with our partners — Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), PETRONAS, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), and Mitsui Oil Exploration Co Ltd (MOECO).

“With the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) completed, Final Investment Decision (FID) achieved, and Brooke Holding now on board, we are aligned towards First Oil in 2028,” he said during the PTTEP-BHSB Sirung Signing Ceremony held here.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to witness the contract signing between PTTEP and BHSB.

Vitoon added that the Sirung Project represents a responsible energy development initiative through the implementation of zero routine flaring and remote operations.

He said the project would also strengthen local participation while contributing to the economic growth of Sarawak and Malaysia.

“As we look ahead, this project is more than just a development — it is a shared platform for innovation, partnership, and long-term value creation.

“Together, we are shaping a future where responsible energy development goes hand in hand with national progress and regional prosperity,” he said.

The contract was awarded to BHSB on 5th Feb, 2026.

The Sirung Field Development is a hydrocarbon field development project located approximately 140 kilometers from the MLNG complex in Bintulu.

The field will be supported by a new production platform designed to facilitate oil and gas production for Offshore Block SK405B. The average water depth in the block is approximately 40-50 meters.

The project features approximately 8,500 metric tons (MT) of topside components and substructure.

The scope of work under the contract includes engineering, procurement and construction of the production platform, as well as engineering and procurement for brownfield host tie-in works.
