Six, including three boys, seriously hurt in head-on collision

KANOWIT: Three boys were among six individuals seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision at Kanowit Bridge, Jalan Kanowit-Song yesterday.

The victims comprised three women aged 35, 36 and 57, and three boys whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

Authorities said two women sustained a fractured right leg and head injuries respectively, while the conditions of the others were not immediately known.

The accident occurred at around 2.20 pm when the Proton Saga carrying the six victims collided head-on with the Toyota Hilux driven by a man.

The impact left two women and a boy trapped inside the Saga, while three other victims were pulled from the wreckage by passers-by before emergency responders arrived.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said personnel from Kanowit station were dispatched to the scene, about 4km away.

Firefighters used special rescue equipment to extricate the trapped victims before handing them over to paramedics for initial treatment.

All six victims were later rushed to Kanowit Hospital for immediate treatment, while the Hilux driver escaped unhurt.

The team also carried out flushing works to clear oil spillage before ending the operation at 5.56 pm.
