Six injured after car crashes into lorry

DEBAK: A driver and his five passengers were injured following a two-vehicle collision near Debak junction along the Pan Borneo Highway yesterday (Aug 17).

The accident happened at around 2.55 pm when a Perodua Bezza carrying the victims, crashed into a 10-tonnes lorry that was making a P-turn.

The impact left the Bezza driver pinned to his seat, while his passengers were pulled out by members of the public.

Four victims, whose identities were not known, were rushed to Debak health clinic by Civil Defence Force (APM), while firefighters from Betong station provided initial treatment to the trapped driver before freeing him using specialised rescue tools.

The driver, who sustained arm injuries, and another passenger were later taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The extent of injuries for the other Bezza passengers remains unknown.

Meanwhile, the lorry driver escaped unscathed in the accident.

Before ending the operaion, the team conducted flushing works to clear oil spillage from the road to ensure the safety of road users.
