Six injured as factory workers’ bus skids in Air Itam

GEORGE TOWN: A bus carrying 29 factory workers skidded on a hilly bend at Jalan Paya Terubong, Air Itam here this morning, injuring six passengers, according to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

Assistant Fire and Rescue Operations Director of the Penang JBPM, John Sagun Francis, said a distress call came through at 7.24 am, and a team of firefighters from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue station was rushed to the scene.

“There were 30 passengers, including the driver, on the bus. Six workers sustained minor injuries while the others were unharmed,” he said in a statement today.

He said the rescue operation involved a Fire Rescue Tender and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit, adding that the injured received initial treatment before they were sent to the hospital. – BERNAMA
