KUCHING: Police have arrested six local men believed to be involved in cable thefts that took place at Jalan Kunchit here.
Padawan district police chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, said a 12-second video clip, which went viral on social media, showed a cable theft incident which was detected at about 2:30 pm on Thursday.
“Following the discovery, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Padawan District Police Headquarters carried out intelligence work between 8:00 pm and midnight on the same day.
“As a result, six local men aged between 25 and 35 were detained,” he said in a statement today.
He added that four vehicles and tools believed to be used to cut the cables were also seized.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and all suspects will be remanded to assist in the investigation.
