KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here placed a local man on a six-month peace bond for wielding a machete at a security guard at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on Mar 14.

Chai Fah Kiong, 58, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge framed under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to the facts of the case, the security guard, who was on duty in the parking lot at the Blood Donation Division lobby, observed the man retrieving a machete from the car bonnet and pointing it at him at around 10.50 am.

Chai’s actions stemmed from frustration due to the security guard’s delay in unlocking his parked car’s tyre after it was clamped in a no-parking zone.

Following the incident, the complainant lodged a police report, leading to Chai’s arrest on Mar 17 at a house in Taman Sri Moyan here.

Investigations revealed that Chai had parked his car in a no-parking zone, resulting in it being clamped by hospital management. Despite paying a compound of RM50 to unlock the tyre, he was dissatisfied with the delay.

In a fit of anger, Chai brandished the machete from his car bonnet and walked back and forth in the area before eventually putting the machete away upon receiving the complainant’s advice.

The incident was captured on closed-circuit camera (CCTV) footage, with several witnesses present.

As a preventive measure, Mason ordered Chai to complete a six-month peace bond with a bail of RM500 and one surety.

Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Chai was unrepresented by counsel.
