Six months jail for man buying stolen motorcycle

KUCHING: A local man who bought a stolen motorcycle for RM500 six years ago was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today.

The accused, Joo Boon Sen, 54, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge, he is accused of possessing stolen property of a Honda motorcycle belonging to a 36-year-old man in Taman Bergawut, Jalan Kereta Api, at about 4.20pm on Sept 2.

If convicted, he can be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than five years and can be fined.

Based on the facts of the case, police have arrested a man in a barn house because he is believed to be in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

As a result of the investigation, the accused admitted to having bought a motorcycle for RM500 in 2017.

In addition, he also found out that the motorcycle he bought was stolen and the chassis number of the motorcycle matched the motorcycle that was reported missing by the complainant.

On Nov 21, 2017, the complainant made a police report about his motorcycle being stolen in an incident next to the Pasar Raya Terkemuka building in Matang.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
