MIRI: Police seized six modified motorcycles and issued 24 traffic summonses during a street gang operation conducted in several areas here.

The operation, which began at 10.00 pm last night (July 19) and ended at 3.00 am this morning, was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters.

The targeted areas included Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Marina Utama, Jalan Miri-Bypass, Jalan Tanjung Lobang, Jalan Tudan, Jalan Permyjaya and Jalan Canada Hill.

Miri District police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation aimed to combat street gang activities and to ensure that road users comply with traffic laws and regulations.

“During the operation, out of 10 vehicles inspected, six motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after they were found to have been modified from their original structure,” he said in a statement today.

He added that 10 individuals were screened, and a total of 24 summonses were issued under PDRM (K) 257 for various traffic offences.

“The operation will be conducted continuously from time to time,” he said, while advising motorcyclists and road users to drive and ride responsibly.

He also reminded motorcyclists and road users to refrain from participating in street gang activities.

“Also avoid modifying the original structure of vehicles, and not loiter by the roadside in a manner that causes traffic congestion and noise disturbance to the public,” he said.

He warned that negligence by drivers and riders not only endangers themselves but also other road users.

Meanwhile, the public with any information regarding street gang activities is urged to contact the Miri District Police Operations Room at 085-433400.
