KUCHING: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak has issued six prohibition notices following a fatal accident at a school construction site in Simunjan last month.
In a statement, DOSH said the action came after a 67-year-old local man was crushed by a concrete block while at the site on 27 February.
Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred at around 1.40pm, as workers were moving concrete blocks from an I-beam structure to the ground using a lorry loader crane.
The victim, who was not employed by the subcontractor involved in the project, was trapped beneath one of the blocks. He was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Simunjan Hospital.
DOSH stated that the six prohibition notices were served to the employer, halting related work activities until proper safety control measures are put in place.
The case is being investigated under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994. Those found responsible could face a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.
