KUCHING: Six compound notices were handed to individuals found smoking in prohibited areas during a two-day integrated enforcement operation in the city from Feb 25.

The Kuching Health Office said the operation under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 involved 21 enforcement personnel, comprising 15 officers and six assistants.

Inspections were carried out at government premises, workplaces, eateries and public parks.

“Six compound notices were issued to individuals found smoking in prohibited areas.

“Although the number recorded a decrease, smoking activities in restricted zones are still detected,” it said.

The office added that the reduction may have been influenced by the Ramadan period.

It said enforcement would continue to curb smoking and vaping activities in prohibited areas to safeguard public health.

Authorities also urged the public to comply with regulations and respect designated smoke-free zones.
