KOTA SAMARAHAN: Six Ramadan bazaar sites have approved for this year here.
These bazaars are located in Samarindah, The Summer Mall, Tambirat, Ferry Point and Pasar Asajaya.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said Ramadan bazaars have always been a major attraction for both traders and visitors.
All traders at these bazaars have received training from the Health Clinic and the Municipal Council to ensure hygiene is maintained in food preparation at their premises and homes.
“The training provided to 112 traders covers aspects of food preparation and hygiene to ensure that the food sold meets the established food safety standards,” she said while launching the Uptown Desa Ilmu Ramadan Bazaar yesterday (March 2).
But she said the council is aware that there are several other areas in Kota Samarahan operating illegally.
Locations such as along the road to Taman Desa Ilmu often become spots for unregistered small traders.
The Council has implemented monitoring measures to ensure the food sold is safe and clean, as well as to provide warnings to traders in case of any non-compliance with hygiene regulations,” she said.
In terms of operating hours, the authorities have allowed bazaars in Samarahan to begin operating at 2pm, to reduce congestion.
“The Council does not encourage stalls to open earlier than the designated time to ensure that food quality is maintained and does not face prolonged storage issues.
“This also prevents traders from being burdened with long food preparation hours,” she added.
