LAWAS: Firefighters pulled six people to safety after floodwaters surged into a home at Kampung Siang-Siang here in the early hours today.

The call came in at 2:33 am, and within 15 minutes, a six-man crew from Lawas Fire and Rescue reached the village, 15 kilometres away.

Led by PBK I Awang Adani Damit, the team used a rescue boat to evacuate four women and two girls trapped inside after water had risen to three feet, flooding the house.

According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operation centre, all victims were moved to a relative’s home.

Firefighters then swept the area to ensure no one else was in danger.

The operation, involving one fire tender, an Isuzu lorry and a boat, was declared under control by 4:26 am and wrapped up nine minutes later.

Police Reserve (PRRM) and Civil Defence Force (APM) also assisted.

No casualties were reported.
