LUNDU: A total of RM530,000 has been allocated to six projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) aimed at upgrading infrastructure and public amenities across Opar’s rural communities.

The projects fall under the supervision of the Bau District Council and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Kuching Division.

The project sites were officially handed over by Opar state assemblyman Billy Sujang yesterday (May 29) to contractors.

Three projects managed by the Bau District Council are the construction of a drainage system from the village hall to Sungai Gronong in Kampung Opar, the building of a new pedestrian walkway to the church in Kampung Rumih, and the creation of a sheltered waiting area for student drop-offs at SK St Teresa in Kampung Stenggang.

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage is overseeing drainage system projects in Kampung Senibong, Kampung Rukam, and Kampung Titiakar.

“These projects demonstrate our ongoing commitment to upgrading rural infrastructure.

“We hope these improvements will ease the daily lives of residents and enhance the wellbeing of our communities,” said Billy.

The projects are expected to provide safer, more efficient infrastructure and significantly benefit the residents in the targeted villages.
