SIBU: A two-storey house at Jalan Teku 15 here was partially damaged in a fire in the wee hours of this morning (Mar 13).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Sungai Merah station were dispatched after receiving a distress call at 1.28am.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found thick smoke billowing from a two-storey permanent house measuring about 20 by 40 feet.

“The fire was believed to have started in the kitchen on the ground floor. However, the blaze had already been extinguished before firefighters arrived at the scene,” said a Bomba spokesperson.

Initial estimates showed about 40 per cent of the house was damaged.

All six occupants were reported safe and no injuries were recorded.
