Six students rescued after floodwaters cut off school

SIBU: Six students were rescued by firefighters after floodwaters cut off their school in Jalan Kong Yit Khim here today.

The incident occurred at SM Citizen Middle School at around 1:25 pm when rising waters left four girls and two boys stranded within the school compound.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sibu Jaya station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, the team found all six students safe but unable to leave the flooded area.

Firefighters used a Mitsubishi Triton vehicle to ferry the students to a safe area where their families waited for them.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 1:59 pm.
