KUCHING: Six vehicles were confiscated by the Road Transport Department (RTD) in separate operations in Bintulu and Sibu on Wednesday (Aug. 19) for various licensing and insurance offences.
In Bintulu, a motorcycle was seized after it was found to have been ridden by a foreigner without a valid driving licence during ‘Ops Pemandu Warga Asing (PEWA)’ and ‘Ops HID/LED’ along Jalan Sultan Iskandar.
The operations saw 240 vehicles inspected, with notices issued for offences such as driving without a licence, expired driving licences, failure to wear seat belts, and various technical violations.
Meanwhile, five vehicles – a car and four motorcycles – were seized by Sibu RTD during ‘Ops Gempur Kenderaan Perdagangan’ and ‘Ops PEWA’ around Sibu.
The vehicles were impounded after checks found that their road tax and insurance coverage had expired.
A total of 327 vehicles were inspected during the Sibu operations, with notices issued for offences including dangerous loading practices, driving without a licence, expired driving licences, failure to wear seat belts, and various technical violations.
Sarawak RTD said enforcement operations would continue to be intensified against those who flout road laws.
