SIBU: Education may have bitter roots but its fruits are sweet.
These sweet fruits are the silent, devoted work of the teachers.
Pointing this out, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Kiang Hin Board of Management Chairman, Kapitan So Teck Kee, reminded all those present that the rise and fall of a nation, the hope of a people, and the civility of a society all began with education.
“A good teacher can influence a student for a lifetime. A group of great teachers can transform an entire society,” he remarked in his speech at SJKC Kiang Hin’s Teachers’ Day celebration held at its multi-purpose hall here on Thursday.
So pointed out that Teachers’ Day was not merely a school celebration.
It was a celebration of all in the society because the mission of a teacher went beyond delivering knowledge.
It involved shaping character, enlightening minds and nurturing the future.
Touching on SJKC Kiang Hin, he stated that since its founding, the school had proudly walked a 98-year journey during which generations of Kiang Hin pioneers overcame countless challenges and contributed immensely to the development of Chinese education in Sibu.
He stressed that it had not only inherited a rich tradition of excellence but also continuously embraced innovation in teaching to keep pace with changing times.
“Today, Kiang Hin is not merely a continuation of history; it is a shining example of progress.
“From new facilities to digital learning and a vibrant school culture, our commitment to educational quality is clear and unwavering.
“As members of the Kiang Hin family, whether as board members, alumni, teachers, or parents, we share a common identity: we are all part of the Kiang Hin community.
“This is not only an honour but also a responsbility. It is our duty to support the development of the school and nurture the next generation.
“Only with strong collaboration between the community and the school can we provide a solid foundation for talents to grow and succeed,” he asserted.
Saying that the school’s goal was not just to preserve its traditional strength, he emphasised it also looked ahead and pursued the vision of making ‘Kiang Hin First’ which was not only about academic excellence but also included character, culture, sports and innovation across all areas.
He hoped that the students would grow holistically in six aspects, namely, morality, intellect, physical health, social skills, aesthetics and creativity.
He hoped the teachers would continue to develop themselves and become lifelong inspirations to their students and aspire for the school to stand out in various evaluations as well as become a benchmark for Chinese primary schools in Sibu and throughout the nation.
“We look back only to go further forward. We cherish the present so we can embrace the future with confidence.
“As we approach Kiang Hin’s 100th anniversary, let us not only preserve our legacy but also be bold in forging ahead with innovation.
“Together, with passion and commitment to education, let us strive for excellence and create a brighter and more glorious future for SJKC Kiang Hin,” So added.
The event, graced by Sibu Division Unity Officer, Jendri Mangku, as guest of honour, was attended by more than 250 students and 25 teaching staff.
Also present were the school headmaster, Ling Ing Kiong, and other school board members.
