SK Dato Mohd Musa bags gold, bronze at Penang tech challenge

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Pupils from SK Dato Mohd Musa (SKDMM) here clinched multiple awards at the Youth Tech Asia Challenge (YTAC) 2026, held from Jan 7 to 9 at Tech Dome, Penang.

The pupils secured a Gold Award, first runner-up and a Bronze Award in the international-level competition, which featured 81 teams from Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.

In the Innotech Software category, SKDMM’s Edu Monster team won the Gold Award and placed first runner-up.

The team, represented by Aisy Fayyadh Zulyhie and Faiha Aina Azzalfa Norazizul, developed an interactive educational game to help Year Three pupils better understand mathematical measurement concepts, under the guidance of teachers Hazilah Rashid and Izzah Iwani Najwa Issnu.

Meanwhile, in the Innotech Hardware category, the Alpha SKDMM team, comprising Aufa Khaliesya and Andrea Joel, won the Bronze Award for their Smart Shelf Organiser (SSO), a system designed to automatically arrange school books according to daily timetables to reduce heavy school bags, under the guidance of teachers Mohd Ariffin Madon and Azahar Malek.

The pupils’ participation was fully sponsored by Press Metal, underscoring the role of industry support in developing future-ready talent, while the Parent-Teacher Association of SK Dato Mohd Musa (PIBGKS) also supported the teams’ involvement.

The programme was attended by Lau Sai Ping from the Samarahan District Education Office (PPD) as well as PIBG representative Halimah Ibrahim.
