SK earthon partners with PETROS for Sarawak exploration

KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan praised SK earthon for their collaboration with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) on the SK427 oil and gas exploration project offshore Sarawak.

In a statement today (August 4), Awang Tengah, who also the Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment, said that he met with Seong Myeong, the president and CEO of SK earthon, a wholly owned subsidiary of South Korea’s SK Innovation Co Ltd, on Thursday.

“This marks a crucial step for SK earthon to expand investment opportunities in onshore exploration, production, and CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation, and storage).

“SK earthon is excited about the new opportunities offered by the Sarawak government. They will explore and assess the potential for investing in Sarawak, not only in oil and gas activities but also in other sectors like manufacturing,” he said.

During the meeting, Awang Tengah encouraged SK earthon to study the potential for midstream and downstream investments by utilising Sarawak’s abundant hydropower, gas reserves, and carbon storage capacity.

SK Innovation and its subsidiaries are currently involved in 11 projects and operate four liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in eight countries, producing 51,000 barrels equivalent of oil and gas daily.

Also present were Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry & Investment Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh; Advisor of MINTRED Sarawak Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Permanent Secretary Datuk Zaidi Mahdi; Acting Permanent Secretary of MINTRED Sarawak Dzulkornain Masron; Director of Land and Survey Department Datuk Abdullah Julaihi, CEO of Regional Corridor Development Authority Datuk Ismawi Ismuni; COO of Sarawak Energy Berhad James Ung, Vice President Upstream of PETROS Jeremy Wong, and Director of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Ruhizam Idris.
