KABONG: Two teachers’ quarters at SK Perpat here were destroyed in a fire this afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Saratok station were dispatched to the scene, about 55 kilometres away, following a distress call at 12:50 pm.

Upon arrival, they found two blocks of teachers’ quarters already engulfed in flames, and extinguishing works were carried out using water sourced from the drain.

Initial investigations found that one of the blocks was unoccupied while the other was inhabited.

Each block consisted of two units, making it a total of four units destroyed in the fire.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as no one was home when the fire broke out.

The flames were brought under control at 2:30 pm, followed by overhaul works to ensure there was no risk of reignition.

It was reported that firefighters faced a minor setback as the road leading to the scene was too narrow for their fire engine to pass through, forcing them to transfer firefighting equipment into a pick-up truck.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 3:00 pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
