KUCHING: In the true spirit of Christmas, a season of sharing, giving and caring, 26 students from a rural primary school, SK Rituh, Serian, were given a memorable festive experience when they were treated to a Christmas buffet at Imperial Hotel Kuching on Tuesday.
The children also received ‘Back-to-School’ gifts to help them prepare for the upcoming new school term, adding joy and practical support to the celebration.
Imperial Hotel Kuching general manager, Patrick Kuek, said hosting students from rural primary schools as part of their Christmas celebration has been the hotel’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative since 2015.
“We specifically select underprivileged students from rural primary schools as we want to share with them the experience of celebrating Christmas in a hotel. The ‘Back-to-School’ gifts are our way of making Christmas more meaningful for them.
“For Christmas, Imperial Hotel Kuching invites selected students from rural schools to experience the festive season at the hotel. The children are treated to a Christmas celebration and meals, before being sent back to school with school supplies, accessories and festive goodies,” he said.
The students were also guided by their teachers, Mackline Jiton, Harry Linggie and Maria Beram.
The initiative reflects Imperial Hotel Kuching’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, ensuring that the joy of Christmas reaches children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience such celebrations.
According to Kueh, the hotel’s CSR programmes are conducted in conjunction with various festive celebrations observed by the Sarawak community.
“Our CSR initiatives are aligned with major festivities celebrated in Sarawak. Each celebration allows us to give back in different ways,” he said.
He explained that for other festive seasons, the approach differs. During Ramadan and Chinese New Year, the hotel collaborates with Hope Place to host underprivileged families, providing them with meals and support as part of the CSR programme.
Imperial Hotel Kuching continues to uphold its commitment to community engagement by ensuring that no celebration goes by without sharing joy with those in need.
