SIBU: Hundreds of pupils at SK Sentosa will benefit from free eye screenings and spectacles assistance under the three day Vision For Future 2.0 programme beginning June 23.
The community initiative, organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Mandarin Sibu, aims to identify students with undiagnosed eyesight problems and provide access to proper vision care, ensuring financial constraints do not hinder their education.
Scheduled from June 23 to 25, the programme is expected to help children from low income families overcome vision related challenges that may affect their classroom performance, concentration and academic development.
In preparation for the programme, representatives from JCI Mandarin Sibu paid an official visit to SK Sentosa on June 19 to submit programme documentation and coordinate implementation arrangements with the school administration.
The delegation was received by headmaster, Azizee Alli Ahmad, and vice headmaster, Jane Tan Su Ling, with organising chairman Jerry Kiing Kiu Zie and JCI Mandarin Sibu’s President, Simon Tiong Yong Yee, also in attendance.
According to Tiong, untreated vision problems remain a common yet often overlooked issue among students from B40 households.
He said poor eyesight can have a significant impact on a child’s ability to learn, affecting concentration, classroom participation and overall academic progress.
Through the collaboration, a professional eye care team will conduct comprehensive vision screenings for students. Those requiring corrective lenses will receive assistance in obtaining spectacles at no cost.
Tiong said the initiative reflects JCI Mandarin Sibu’s continued commitment to creating meaningful and sustainable impact within the community.
“Good eyesight is fundamental to a child’s learning journey. By helping students overcome vision difficulties, we hope to give them greater confidence in the classroom and a stronger foundation for future success,” he said.
He added that the programme goes beyond healthcare assistance and represents a broader effort to promote social inclusiveness and educational equity.
Guided by its mission of serving humanity and developing young leaders, JCI Mandarin Sibu has consistently undertaken community projects that address practical needs while supporting vulnerable groups.
With the support of SK Sentosa, organisers are confident that Vision For Future 2.0 will make a tangible difference in the lives of participating students, enabling them to learn more effectively and pursue their aspirations with greater confidence.
