SIBU: The Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) aid initiative has become a popular topic on social media since it was distributed to recipients in phases starting from Feb 18.

Many have shared posts expressing their gratitude for the Sarawak government’s initiative, with some even uploading pictures of their shopping trolleys filled with essential items they purchased.

Some have also given shout-outs and expressed their appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the initiative, which has evidently helped ease the burden of some families.

“Thank you, Abang Johari! This has saved me two months’ salary. Stocking up on baby formula is a priority, and I’ve also refilled cleaning supplies and toiletries. Now, with my salary, I only need to buy fresh groceries,” wrote Facebook user Noni Jouning.

Meanwhile, another Facebook user, Nour Qadry, who is not a recipient of the SKAS aid, also expressed gratitude to the Sarawak government and praised Abang Johari’s forward-thinking approach.

“If the SKAS aid were given in cash, do you think their kitchens would be well-stocked right now? Surely, the money would be used for other purposes, such as paying off debts or buying different items.

“It was a wise decision by the Sarawak government—at least now, every household has essential supplies to welcome the month of Ramadan.

“I am not an SKAS recipient, but I am truly grateful to see those receiving the aid using it wisely,” she said.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad was also seen monitoring the situation at a supermarket in Daro, observing SKAS recipients shopping for their essentials.

“Last night, I managed to stop by one of the supermarkets in Daro to check on SKAS recipients purchasing essential goods via Spay Global.

“Alhamdulillah, it is proving to be very helpful, especially for those in need. Thank you, Sarawak government,” he said.

SKAS is a financial assistance programme initiated by the Sarawak government to support low-income residents in purchasing essential food items.

Beneficiaries receive digital vouchers through the S PAY GLOBAL e-wallet application, with assistance amounts varying based on recipient categories.
