KAPIT: The three-day Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) Programme 2026 here has attracted 38,607 visitors, the highest attendance recorded among the four divisions that have hosted the state government’s outreach initiative this year.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Law and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat said the overwhelming response reflected strong public support for the state government’s efforts to engage directly with the people and bring development initiatives closer to local communities.
The Bukit Goram assemblyman described the turnout as a remarkable achievement for Kapit and evidence of the people’s keen interest in understanding the state’s development agenda and initiatives.

The attendance surpassed the 36,393 visitors recorded in Bintulu, while the programmes in Miri and Limbang attracted 24,076 and 16,917 visitors respectively.
Jamit said programmes such as SKS not only serve as a platform to disseminate information, but also strengthen the relationship between the government and the people through closer and more meaningful engagement.
“This programme provides an effective channel for leaders and the government to listen directly to the people’s aspirations, understand their needs and identify areas requiring further attention,” he said during the closing ceremony today (June 28).
He said the people of Kapit continue to aspire for effective development, improved infrastructure, easier access to government services, broader economic opportunities and a better standard of living.
Jamit added that the younger generation should be able to look forward to brighter prospects without having to leave their hometowns solely in search of opportunities elsewhere.
As a representative who was born, raised and has served in Kapit, he said he understood the aspirations of the local community and hoped that the current momentum of development in the division would continue to be strengthened.
He stressed that planned projects must be implemented effectively while ongoing initiatives should be managed efficiently to ensure that their benefits reach the people.
Jamit also expressed confidence that Kapit, with its abundant natural resources, rich cultural diversity and strong community spirit, would continue to emerge as an increasingly important region in Sarawak’s development landscape.

He said continued cooperation between the government, implementing agencies and the local community would be essential in overcoming challenges and ensuring sustainable development.
Jamit also conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his leadership and commitment to bringing development initiatives closer to the people through programmes such as Sarawakku Sayang.
He also thanked Works Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, federal and state leaders, government agencies, community leaders, organisers and the people of Kapit for their efforts in ensuring the success of the programme.
One of the highlights of the closing ceremony was the prize presentation ceremony for the E Peraduan lucky draw, which saw four lucky participants walk away with motorcycles as the grand prizes.
