SIBU: The Sibu Life Care Society (SLCS) has been lauded for their continuous efforts in contributing to the welfare and health of the community for 40 years.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said the society has become a symbol of love and humanity, providing assistance to those in need regardless of race, religion, or background.
“SLCS is always at the forefront when the community faces difficulties. Among the initiatives greatly appreciated is the free ambulance service provided to patients at any time.
“Indeed, it is a source of pride for the Sibu community,” he said at the SLCS’S 40th anniversary celebration dinner and Veneration of the Elderly, held at a local restaurant here last night.
Tiang, who is also the Pelawan assemblyman, highlighted that the spirit of charity shown by SLCS reflects the noble values of the Sibu community — hardworking, trustworthy, caring and selfless.
“Every individual has two forms of ‘savings accounts’ in life — a wealth account and a charity account. By increasing good deeds, good words and good intentions, we build a more harmonious and prosperous community.
“Instilling goodness in daily life benefits not only ourselves, but also our families and future generations,” he said.

He also shared that over the past 40 years, SLCS has created countless touching stories for the people of Sibu.
“I have personally witnessed every effort and contribution of this organisation. That is why, I promise to continue to channel an allocation of RM20,000 annually to SLCS as long as I am a representative of the people,” he stressed.
Tiang also hope that the organisation’s spirit and dedication would continue to shine, making Sibu a town full of love and blessings.
He also commended SLCS for expanding to nine branches across Sarawak, a testament to community unity and the power of love.
“Where there is love, there is no obstacle. As long as we do good regardless of the reward, God will not disappoint the kind-hearted,” he added.
On a related note, he called on the corporate sector and the public to continue to support SLCS, noting that every donation — big or small — as a “charitable investment” that can save lives.
“As often emphasised by the Premier, the state government prioritises the welfare of the people and have provided assistance through various initiatives,” he said.
Among those present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng; Political Secretary to the Premier Joshua Ting Fu Ying, SLCS honorary advisor Datuk Lau Ngie Hua and SLCS chairman Chew Ching Kuong.
