SIBU: The SM Wong Nai Siong Challenge Cup singing competition is held from today Sept 1 till tomorrow for Chinese primary schools and Chinese independent secondary schools here. The event, which offers lucrative prizes, is coordinated by Sibu Pingnang Tonhiong Association.
SM Wong Nai Siong board of directors chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming said the preliminary round for the primary school category will be held today at the Sibu Foochow Association premises, starting 8am. The preliminary round for the secondary school category will be at the same venue, starting at 1pm.
“The finals will be held at RH Hotel here tomorrow (Sunday Sept 2) at 6.30pm. It will be held over dinner to celebrate the 51st anniversary of SM Wong Nai Siong,” he added.
Twenty-seven students from nine primary schools and 23 from 10 secondary schools have registered to take part in the competition. “The school that wins the challenge cup for three consecutive years will get to keep it for good,” Lau said.
