SIBU: Police are on the hunt for a man who goes by the alias ‘Small Apple’, allegedly harassing women online by sending them unsolicited obscene photos and videos.
The incident came to light on social media last week, prompting two women to lodge police reports against the man.
The first report was filed on July 25 by a 33-year-old woman who had met the suspect at a wedding in 2022.
The suspect allegedly sent her obscene personal images under the guise of “asking for her opinion”.
A day later, a 40-year-old woman came forward with a similar experience.
She claimed that her initial conversation with the man revolved around health matters before the suspect suddenly sent her lewd photos and videos.
Sibu Police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, said the suspect’s actions were viewed as a subtle form of sexual harassment.
“Based on both reports, an investigation paper was opened under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person,” he said.
Upon conviction, the offence carries imprisonment for a term of up to five years, a fine, or both.
Efforts are underway to locate the individual believed to be involved in the case.
Those with information on the suspect are encouraged to assist with the investigation by contacting investigating officer, Insp. Magdaline, at 019-8153727 or head to the nearest police station.
