SARAWAK will strengthen support for small businesses next year, with RM31 million allocated under the 2026 Budget to drive micro and SME development across the state.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the funding would support credit schemes, entrepreneurship programmes and digital adoption to help small enterprises scale and remain competitive.

“We want our SMEs to grow with the right tools, financing and training so they can succeed in both domestic and regional markets,” he said when tabling the 2026 State Budget on Monday (Nov 24).

Abang Johari said the allocation covered key initiatives such as the Skim Kredit Mikro Sarawak, SME loan schemes, Bumiputera entrepreneurship programmes, digital adoption support and special relief facilities.

To enhance SME training and upskilling, he said an additional RM20 million would be provided to strengthen competency-building programmes across sectors.

He said RM9.6 million had also been earmarked for the Anjung Usahawan programme, which would establish 16 entrepreneurship centres in rural and remote areas to support business development.

To attract investment, RM58.2 million would be channelled to industrial park development, including projects in Kuching, Sibu, Lawas, Limbang, Kapit, Bau, Sebuyau and the Samalaju SME Cluster.

A further RM2.65 million has been allocated for an Impact Assessment Study on Sarawak’s industrial parks to guide future planning and ensure optimal economic returns.

To expand trade opportunities, RM6 million would be set aside to intensify trade and investment promotion efforts, while another RM6 million would support InvestSarawak’s targeted missions.

He said RM21 million would also fund Sarawak Trade and Tourism Offices in Singapore, Brunei and the soon-to-be-opened Pontianak office, strengthening the state’s regional engagement.
