LIMBANG: The SMART Programme (Sustainable Modern Agriculture through Rural Technology Entrepreneurship) is playing a vital role in transforming how communities approach agriculture with greater efficiency and sustainability.
According to Hilma Rejer, assistant secretary of the Regional Development Division at the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development (M-FICORD), the programme is a key step towards achieving the aspirations of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“SMART is not just about introducing technology, but about reshaping how communities engage in agriculture in more efficient and sustainable ways.
“With the right knowledge and skills, rural communities can harness innovation to boost productivity and strengthen their competitiveness,” she said when officiating the closing ceremony of the second edition of the SMART Programme in Limbang.
Organised by M-FICORD in collaboration with Sarawak Skills, the second series of the programme in Limbang involved 24 participants.
The month-long initiative, held from July 21 to Aug 21, was part of the Rural ICT Training and Development Initiative.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Skills chief strategy officer Mohamad Isham Fauzi described the programme as a catalyst for innovation and socio-economic transformation in rural Sarawak.
He also announced that the third series of the SMART Programme will soon be held in Miri, further strengthening efforts to nurture competitive agri-entrepreneurs in line with PCDS 2030.
