MUKAH: The installation project for smart traffic lights at the four-way junction of Jalan Wawasan/Jalan Setia 2 here is expected to be completed by November this year.
Tellian assemblyman, Royston Valentine, said the project, valued at more than RM2 million, is under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“The main objective of installing these smart traffic lights is to ensure the safety of road users.
“We are aware that this area frequently experiences accidents, and with this initiative, we hope to reduce such incidents for the safety of everyone,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating the symbolic handover ceremony of the Smart Traffic Light Project site at Jalan Wawasan here today.
In relation to that, he said there are statistics concerning accidents in the area, both reported and unreported.
He further mentioned that even minor accidents are still dangerous to all.

“That is why, at the government level, we applied for the installation of smart traffic lights here.
“We are grateful to have received approval for this installation, which includes not only smart traffic lights but also other structures or components such as drainage, roads, and many other related aspects.
“This includes utilities like electric poles that may need to be relocated or not, to ensure the smooth progress of this project,” he said.
Meanwhile, Royston expressed hope that the project will proceed smoothly and urged road users to exercise caution while using the alternative routes provided.
He added that the project is expected to benefit the community in Mukah and beyond in ensuring everyone’s safety.
