SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh has praised the SMC Social and Sports Club, saying it is a good platform for staff to get together .

He noted that the membership composition is made up of existing staff as well as retired councillors and employees.

“I just realised that this sports club is not only for the standing committee or the present staff, it is also for all the staff that used to work in SMC.

“I want to say thank you for your services; despite having retired, you showed up which is an indication that that your heart is still with SMC,” he said in his speech at the club dinner here last night (July 9).

Ting also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to SMC staff for their hard work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“You all faced the dangers of getting Covid. I think that during the pandemic, we SMC, should be very proud of your performance and we managed to suppresses this dreadful disease and now we are back to normal,” he said.

At the dinner, the club also presented incentives to club members’ children who scored excellent results in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Malaysian Higher Education (STPM).

Among those present were SMC secretary Yong Ing Chu and club president Jestina Teresa Kaben.
